When You Don't Feel God's Presence

But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. {Psalm 77:11-12}

God, where are you? Have you ever felt that way? Has life been so difficult at times for you or someone you love that you start to question whether God has turned His back on you and your situation?

The psalmist must have felt this exact way as he began to question God’s presence in his life. “Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will He never again be kind to me? Is His unfailing love gone forever?”{vs 7-8}

During rough seasons we can find ourselves tossing and turning at night. Seeking guidance. Desiring support from friends and family, only to hear cliche responses- “things will work out as they should” or “tough times don’t last always.” Although true, we are still often left feeling empty and without hope. There is only one person that can ease the unsettling discomfort of the unknown.

It’s so easy to forget of God's Mighty Works when what we see in front of us does not resemble what we planned or expected. In these moments be still and KNOW that He is God {Psalm 46:10}.

When you don’t feel God’s presence in your circumstance, open your Bible and meditate on God’s wonder.

Use your imagination.

Hear the loud crash as the walls of Jericho fall at God's command.

Visualize the Red Sea parting in front of your eyes.

Envision manna falling from the sky to provide you with daily bread.

See Lazarus get up from the dead. See Jesus on the cross. See Jesus alive today.

Feel the Holy Spirit in you. That Power dwells in those who believe.

Remember God. Then speak of these deeds. Stir yourself up in what God has done. Speak to friends about their testimony. Share yours.

Remember how much He loves us and then you will know~There is no way that my Father is missing in action. Even in His silence, He is working. His eyes are constantly watching us. His hands are constantly at work.

Be encouraged-our Father will never leave us or forsake us. {Deuteronomy 31:6}
