Love Who??

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT

This has to be one of the more popular verses from the Bible when speaking of love. Especially when it comes to exchanging vows at weddings or when people talk about their love for their spouse. In this world most people reserve their love for someone that is "special" or family. But if we look at the scriptures, God intended for us to have love for everyone...

Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all of your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself."

Matthew 22:38-39 NLT

We all like to forget that second part...Love my what? You mean family, right? Okay humor me, let's venture to the land of lollipops and gum drops for a minute. What if everyone realized how important love is to God and decided to start truly treating people with love. What if we allowed Jesus to truly work through us, so we were able to show "love" to our neighbor? Wow...that thought took my breath away. Imagine how different the world would be.

Okay, wake up let's get back to our reality in this world. The enemy is real and he knows that love truly is the key to seeing things from God's perspective. So what does the enemy do? He instigates arguments with greed, selfishness, and pride (among other things). He knows that if he can get us away from love, we are away from God's will. If he can get us toward sin, he is pulling us away from God's light. I don't know about you but that makes me angry! The devil overpowers our life so often that it makes me want to go out and hug the first person I see.--okay that might be slightly weird--

The devil already lost the battle but he is walking around this world like he is a boss. Although he too knows that the battle is already won and he is the loser- #ByeSatan (in my Bye Felicia voice)! Don't allow him to pull you from love by killing your dreams, stealing your faith, and destroying your relationships and home. That will always be the devil's plan: kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

God's love is perfect! As humans we don't understand what it means to love unconditionally. We love based on conditions. We categorize what/who we are willing to forgive. We hurt people because they hurt us. We don't understand God's love and that is why we are unable to give it as He does. I am so glad that I serve a God that does not think like we do! Can I get a praise break on that????? No, you don't fee like dancing?

So this year I've challenged myself to do as we are commanded and love God with all my heart AND my neighbors. Like, all of them (which by the way includes you, so hold me to this)! You know we have the perfect example of showing love to others, right? #Jesus- With the Holy Spirit as my guide, I will learn to just love on people...

So, are you up for a challenge? Yes, another one and I have a ton of other challenges coming your way! This week, take the definition of love (given to us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT) and apply that to everyone. Even your enemies. Stop huffing and puffing--there is no house to blow down! ;-) Isn't February the month of love anyway?!?!?

Hmmmmm this could be interesting...I'd love to hear your stories of showing "love to all."
