Last week I attended our 7:15 service at my church. The message entitled "Resurrection: Manifestation of Hope" can be found here. Please check it out! Just to give you a quick summary, Pastor Jim Critcher spoke on a few points.
  • There is no gospel without the resurrection- meaning the fact that Jesus rose on the third day is the gospel!
  • Death is always a pre-requisite for resurrection- not necessarily the physical death, but you have to die to your flesh in order to experience resurrection power (Jesus working through you).
  • Only in the true gospel will we experience true hope
  • That hope should form how we live today.
  • Our resurrection is assured just as much as Jesus who died and rose again.

Again this is just my brief summary/interpretation (remember I'm no pastor!) so please check out the actual message

During our service we spent a lot of time in 1 Corinthians 15, so I decided to go home and study the chapter more. As I read through the chapter versus 32 and 33 stood out to me:

And what value was there in fighting wild beasts-those people of Ephesus- if there will be no resurrection from the dead? And if there is no resurrection, "Let's feast and drink, for tomorrow we die!"
1 Corinthians 15:32 (NLT)

After reading this, the word YOLO immediately popped in my head. For those that don't know, the concept of YOLO is/was a very popular phrase that means You Only Live Once- made popular by a a secular music artist. This song promotes the fact that you only get the chance at life once, so live it up. Do what you can to earn all you can in this lifetime, because this is it. This life is the grand all! This life is the only life you will have, so do everything you can to get whatever your heart desires now. This world, this life, is all you get....wait what?!?!?!?! This can't be all!!

Don't be fooled by those who say such things, for "bad company corrupts good character." Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don't know God at all.
1 Corinthians 15:33 (NLT)

The truth is many of us truly live our life this way. believing that this life is all that God intended for us. We think that He created us to live and die here and that is the end of the story. That this was His grand plan when it is all said and done. So we do whatever we can to get all that we can now, with this life because we only live once. We get so disappointed at our short comings because we know that life is not guaranteed. We work so hard that we forget to enjoy our loved ones and miss opportunities to take time to just rest and worship God for His presence. This YOLO motto makes us believe that it is now or never. For the most part we live our life selfishly, sinning, to ensure that we get all that our hearts desire because we only live once. But I challenge you to change your perspective.

The message from service tonight was a PSA (Public Service Announcement) that I wanted to share with as many people as I possibly can. Jesus is our gift from God. He died on the cross, BUT He rose on the third day. He beat death! So no, technically believers live again and not once. Isn't that the true beauty? For just as sure as Jesus rose, so will we! Isn't that amazing? Death could not hold Him down! So I can live each day to its fullest to glorify God, and when my purpose is complete he will lay me to rest. There I will stay until He returns to wake me. That gives me chills....Do you see the perspective? I live life to the fullest because I know that I will one day live again in His presence.

The blessing of eternal life should be our reason to live life as God intended-by loving others and being kind (Fruit of the Spirit- Galatians 5:22&23). Give Jesus the opportunity to truly live through us and guide our path. Not living life for our own selfish pleasures, but to give as Jesus gave and love as He loves! But please don't get me wrong! I believe that God wants us to live life and experience joy here on earth until He returns. Just know that this world isn't the end for the believer. Don't put your hope in this world!

And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world. But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. So you see, just as death came into this world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when He comes back.
1 Corinthians 15: 19-23 (NLT)

The truth is I already died, as a born again Christian, I died to myself to live again for Christ. So now death has no power over me (death in the physical and death as in sin). I have resurrection power that lives within me. This changed my swagger a bit. I walk with a new confidence. I look at the enemy like...what?? What did you say?? Do you know who lives in me? Yes, I may stumble, fall, mess up, fail, yup I'll do all those things from time to time. But with Jesus in me...I WILL NOT LOSE! And who are you again? Oh, that's right a fallen angel---Bye Felicia! hehehehehehehe Yes, those are the conversations I have in my head with the enemy. You are so welcome for that! :-)

Jesus is my power, without him I am weak. I'm okay with being weak because I know He is strong. So death isn't the end...allow Jesus to live through you, so you can live right on this earth. Then when death knocks at your door (death physically or death meaning sin) it won't have power over you. Live your life making sure everyone knows about Jesus, that everyone experiences His love through your life. Allow your life to be a window into heaven. If you care about someone introduce them to Jesus. Don't worry about their behavior, that's for Jesus to deal with and believe me, He will. I have to say this to myself all the time. It's so easy to get into the routine of what this world thinks is success or what this world thinks is happiness. No, allow Jesus to show you pure joy. I pray that for whoever reads this...please get to know Jesus.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
1 Corinthians 15:58

Life is about perspective. If you take nothing else from this message, please remember to  (1) know Jesus (2) and allow Him to help you form your perspective in life. It will make you view this world very differently.

Until next time....say hi to Jesus :-)
